CRUSH MEETS PLUSH

The perfect balance between raw power and all-day ridability, the all-new Synapse combines remarkably light weight, race-proven performance and dialed vertical compliance in a bicycle that redefines "Endurance." The ultimate partner for the epic ride.

An ideal blend of compliance, rigidity, and weight for the perfect balance of race-day aggression and all-day ridability.

Revolutionary. BallisTec Carbon, Power Pyramid and the SAVE PLUS system provide the ideal blend of crush meets plush.

Synapse is:

  • S.E.R.G. Synapse Endurance Race Geometry
    With its slightly taller head tube, slightly longer wheelbase and slightly slacker head angle, S.E.R.G. strikes the ideal balance between pure race positioning and upright comfort. Perfect for long days in the saddle and confident handling on all road surfaces.
  • SAVE PLUS Micro-Suspension System
    The SAVE PLUS Micro-suspension system is a three part system, comprised of the carbon lay-up, the rear triangle and fork, and the seat post and seat tube, all designed to collaborate seamlessly to reduce vibration, improve handling, and increase comfort.
  • SAVE PLUS Micro-suspension system (Rear Triangle and Fork)
    The frame and fork's carbon layup is designed to optimize high-frequency vibration dissipation, reducing road buzz. The radical helixed shapes of the chain stays and seat stays work in conjunction with the offset dropout fork to allow the wheels to track over imperfections in the road for better handling and control, seated or standing.
  • SAVE PLUS Micro-suspension system (Seat post and Seat tube)
    The elegantly scalloped seat tube and the smaller diameter 25.4mm seatpost are designed to flex together to provide more comfort when seated. The integrated collarless seat clamp allows more of the seatpost to flex than with a traditional clamp.
  • Power Pyramid/BB30A
    The seat tube splits asymmetrically to meet a new wider 73mm BB30A bottom bracket, for maximum stiffness with minimal weight.

RIDER PROFILE:

People who live for the love of the ride. Fit, serious, high-performance riders who set their sights beyond the tightly defined world of the pure racer; Gran Fondo specialists, all-day-epic riders, and those who long to venture off the smooth and easy.

Cycling Plus Votes the Synapse, bike of the year

Synapse BallisTec Carbon frame options:

  • Synapse Hi-MOD:
    BallisTec Hi-MOD carbon construction. High and ultra-high modulus fibers create an interconnected stiffening network throughout an extremely strong and durable base structure. Ultra light, strong and stiff.
  • Synapse Carbon:
    Same lay-up, same molds and same ballistic base fibers as the Hi-MOD version, but utilizing a higher percentage of intermediate modulus fibers to tune stiffness and ride feel.

  • 700 x 28c Tires
    The larger tires (up to 28c) found on the Synapse models provide more comfort, are better suited for differing road conditions, and are less likely to pinch flat.

              Comments about Synapse Carbon 5 105:

              I have been looking for this bike for the past 6 months without success until last Saturday. I have been riding a Trek 2.1 for the past 3 years and was very happy with it. After seeing that the Synapse was awarded bike of the year I had to at least take it for a test ride. As I stated previously, I could not locate one in my area. I test road a Trek Madone 5.2 and a Felt Z3. I was not completely sold on either one, so I decided to continue my search for the Synapse. I located one at Paradise Garage bike shop in Columbus, Ohio. After 15 minutes on the bike I instantly understood how it won bike of the year. It is super comfortable without being boring. It is very fast on the flats as well as climbing. In the past week, I have already completed 115 miles and have enjoyed every one. Quality of the bike is second to none with excellent components. Also, the Jet Black is a very striking color. If you give this bike a try, you will not buy another.

                    Comments about Synapse Carbon 5 105:

                    This was my second road bike and my first carbon frame. I purchased it late in 2013, stuck it in a stationary trainer over the winter and rode it for hours at a time. In the past, I've found that coming off the trainer to the roads meant adjusting for the friction of rolling over the road and increasing my effort substantially.

                    Not so with this bike. The gear ratio is so finely tuned that I barely noticed the road under me.

                    I'm a pretty big rider, and I'm used to feeling grounded to the pavement as I ride. Riding this bike, it felt like I was flying about three feet off the ground. When I switched back to my old aluminum frame bike, I felt the difference. Pedaling this bike meant an almost immediate acceleration. Pedaling my aluminum felt like I was dragging a small refrigerator.

                    Climbing has never been easier, and it handles the rough roads around NYC like they were perfectly paved. You don't make turns on this bike, you carve them.

                    Sadly, the bike had to be put down after a minor accident -- and if there's a downside to carbon, its unibody construction means a crash can mean a full frame replacement at best (the warranty helps) -- but here's the capper to this review: I immediately went back to the Cannondale store to buy a replacement.

                          I purchased mine (Synapse5) in January and I cant say enough about this bike. I enjoy long and short rides, just about whatever I can fit in in a day. The comfort of the bike is fantastic but its not too relaxed. The bike is so responsive that even when I want to go out for a casual ride I find myself hammering on it every chance I can. The handling is amazing, coming down a hill in to a curve at 40 mph I never felt nervous once about how it would respond. Even the stock tires that came with it are pretty good.

                                Hello,
                                I like to ride during my hour long lunch break and I just picked up the Cannondale 5 105 bike this morning. I have to say that this bike is AWESOME! I ride for fitness and boy does this bike make me feel more capable then I really am at this point of my fitness plan. This is my first true road bike so I have nothing to compare it to, it handles like a race car but rides smooth over cracks or bumps. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this bike for anyone that is either riding for fitness all the way to the person riding for competition. This bike is everything I wanted and much much more.

                                      Comments about Synapse Carbon 5 105:

                                      Like most riders, I had to crawl from the bottom when it comes to performance and quality on a bike. I started with a steel frame and i was lucky enough to get mi hands on a 2011 synapse, the bike was great! However, I had to sell it and get the 2014 version because it had so much more to offer.
                                      * Better quality carbon
                                      * Wider bottom bracket
                                      * Internal cable routing
                                      * Full carbon steer
                                      * DI2 adapters included
                                      Clearly the weapon of choice if your goal is going fast and comfortably.
