Cannondale News: Cyclocross Worlds In The Snow

Posted on 1/28/2010

Winter is all over Europe – especially in the southeastern part of the Czech Republic where the cyclocross elite will fight for the world champion’s title this weekend. In Tabor they expect snow but also thrilling fights on the icy and challenging course. Cannondale Factory Racing’s Marco Aurelio Fontana will face the battle on Sunday.

After two world cups in France and in Belgium, the racers have become accustomed to mud and rain. Only one week later, they are worried about the ice on the course. “I am prepared for the worlds,” Fontana said after he finished in the top 25 in last weekend’s World Cup. “The course will be so icy and cold. It will be different to whatever we saw this season so far. As always, I will give everything. After the last race I felt fine and was happy with my race because I feel that I am in good shape and prepared and that I did the right job for next summer’s season.”

Marco will be accompanied by the American Cannondale riders Tim Johnson, Jamey Driscoll and Jeremy Powers. After a great cross program in the US, they came over to Europe the prepare for their season’s highlight in Tabor.

Tabor’s course is 3.3 kilometres long and very winding. That means a lot of steering for the riders on the snow and ice. But for the spectators, it offers some spectacular views and plenty of chances to cheer for the riders.
