Recently, there have been a string of endurance-level victories for riders using Lefty forks. Matthew Lee's win of the 2009 Tour Divide is just the latest example.
Why do 24-hour racers and marathon riders choose the Lefty - even when mounted to non-Cannondale frames?
- Lefty forks are light. When compared to the competition, Lefty forks can be as much as two pounds lighter than leading forks from other manufacturers. Those two pounds can be useful for Tour Divide racers, allowing them to carry more water and food, extra tubes, or rare creature comforts.
- Lefty forks perform better. Lefty forks use needle bearings instead of bushings to help ensure premium suspension performance, even thousands of miles into the Tour Divide race in all kinds of conditions. The single strut can account for some of that weight loss, but it also is credited for the super-strong, super-stiff steering response that wastes none of a rider's energy.
