Saalfelden, Austria.

The 2012 Mountain Bike season is in the books and CFR finished it with some great highlights.

Marco Aurelio Fontana won a World Championship Title in the Team Relay with the Italian team and rode a strong XCO race, leading for most of the race alongside his main competior Nino Schurter. “My goal was to ride similar to the Olympics and stay with Nino from the beginning. I was missing a bit of power compared to him, but hoped he would slow down at some point. Well he didn’t, and with one lap to go I could not follow anymore. I felt powerless in the last lap and lost a lot of ground on the tough course here in Saalfelden. I tried my best, but it did not work out. I am happy anyway as I did everything I could do. I am looking forward to a break now to refocus on next season already.”

Marco finished in 6th place, followed by his teammate Manuel Fumic. “I tried to go into the race with a different approach and not be in the very front at the beginning, just to save some energy for the end, as it was a long race,” Fumic said after finishing in 7th place. “No reason to complain. It was my best season overall and there is only a little left that I need to gain. I am looking forward to 2013 already.”

CFR’s Junior Keegan Swenson road a strong race, finishing 5th in the Juniors race and is ready for the move up into the U23 category after this.

In Sunday’s XC Eliminator race, Manuel finished 5th, winning the small finals, after he had crash at the start gate that took away his chances for the big final. XC Eliminator is a new race format, where 4 racers compete against each other on a short XC course in an Eliminator format where the first 2 advance to the next round.

The next stop for CFR is the infamous Roc d Azur in Frejus, France in the beginning of October.
