Welcome to Piedmont! Your guides will meet you at the Voghera train station and sweep you off to Roma Imperiale where we’ll toast your arrival with a traditional spumante. After a bike fitting, safety talk, and map review, we’ll head off on our first ride cycling across the Bormida River. Climb into the vine-clad ridges before looping back to the ancient Roman city of Acqui Terme. Tonight we’ll shuttle into the countryside for an exclusive dinner at our friend Graziella’s winery, Villa Delfini, where she will delight us with homemade Piedmontese delicacies paired with one of her wines for each course.

Climbing Faiallo Pass
Today we will encounter an epic climb over the Faiallo Pass featuring stunning views of Genova and the Mediterranean below before turning back into the untracked wilds of the Ligurian Apennines for a thrilling descent back to the valley. After lunch, cycle back to the villa to enjoy some time in the spa or explore Acqui. From the hotel your guides are happy to direct you to the best places to shop and /or soak up Acqui’s famous thermal waters. We’ll cap off the day with an intimate dinner at our friend Guido’s private restaurant, located in the family farmhouse in the middle of his vineyards above Acqui. Guido’s parents do all the cooking and they will make you feel like long-lost family with their genuine hospitality.

Cycle over the famous Langhe hills, an intimate landscape filled with vineyards, truffles, gracious medieval towns like Montabone and Rocchetta Palafea, and stunning panoramas of an ancient landscape. Enter the birthplace of the Slow Food movement as we get closer to Alba, passing Hazelnut trees all on top of the ridge road. Try the mouthwatering tajarin pasta at Massimo’s hilltop trattoria before continuing to the medieval village of Monforte and our final hotel. This evening, we’ll visit our friend, a local wine producer, for a tasting of his best Barberas, Dolcettos and Barolos.

Welcome to the 2014 Giro d'Italia
The Giro has finally arrived! Today we get our first chance to see the Giro as the racers Time Trial across the plains for a finish in Barolo, one of the world’s most celebrated wine-making villages. Their route will take them from Barbaresco and the towns along the way will be decked out in pink in preparation. Cycle the course and see what it takes to beat the clock and be the fastest rider on the circuit. Then enjoy VIP access to the Cannondale team for a behind-the-scenes look at the world of pro cycling. After the race we will loop back to our hotel where you will enjoy a relaxing evening in town.

The Giro Takes Off From Fossano
Today we set out from our hotel cycling through the vineyards on our way to the stage starting line in Fossano. Meet the staff behind the team and mingle with the riders as they prepare to start the 158km stage to Rivarolo Canavese. Watch the Giro take off and salute their departure with lunch at a favorite local restaurant. After lunch we’ll complete our loop back to the hotel for a relaxing wine tasting. Head out later for short walk through Monforte’s cobblestoned streets and enjoy a wonderful farewell dinner paired with world-class local wines.
