January 18th - Cannondale Pro Cycling joins 18 of the world’s top race teams for the 15th annual Santos Tour Down Under (January 20th- 27th) in Adelaide, South Australia, the location for the inaugural race of the 2013 UCI Road season. The six-stage, 758km race will test athlete’s determination in what has become one of the most popular tour races in the world.
Kicking off the festivities will be the People’s Choice Classic, a 51K criterium starting and ending at the east end of Adelaide. Fans will have the opportunity to check out the winning riders' jersey presentations after the race finish at the Ochre Presentation Podium near the finish line.
Just days after formally being introduced to the public for the first time, Cannondale’s newly launched race team, Cannondale Pro Cycling will field a star-studded international lineup featuring Italians Stefano Agostini (who returns to race after five months due to an injury), Federico Canuti, Alan Marangoni and Cristiano Salerno as well as Slovakia’s Juraj Sagan. They will be joined by two new additions to Cannondale Pro Cycling, Denmark native Brian Vandborg and Australia’s own Cameron Wurf.
“Every time you enter a new season, the first race is always critical because you want to get off to a positive start and build momentum moving forward,” said Biagio Conte, directeur sportif for Cannondale Pro Cycling. “The competition level at Tour Down Under is high, especially for Australian riders that are advantaged in terms of preparation and acclimatization. From our side, we have to be able to exploit all the possible chances to achieve a good result. We have a confident group of cyclists for this. We are very excited for what we think is going to be an outstaying season for Cannondale Pro Cycling.”
The 2013 World Tour will break for 34 days before resuming with the 71st running of the Paris-Nice stage race, scheduled for March 3rd – 10th.
