Liquigas-Cannondale's Peter Sagan scored his third stage win at the Vuelta a España, taking the final stage into Madrid in front of pure sprinters like Alessandro Petacchi and Daniele Bennati. "This race for me was kind of a bet to see how I could do in a three week race. Having arrived in Madrid, I can say I'm more than satisfied. Adding three stage wins to that makes my first grand tour even more special. I couldn't have asked for more," said Sagan.

Last Friday's queen stage in the Giro di Padania was the perfect stage for Ivan Basso to make his presence known on the only summit finish in the race, and he didn't disappoint. Basso attacked on the final ramp up to San Valentino di Brentonico and took the stage win along with the green leader's jersey, which he held until the finish on Saturday. The win was Basso's second of the year and the team's twenty-seventh success. "Since the start of the race, I knew that today would have to be mine," said Basso. "I'm very happy to have been able to achieve this objective."
