I've never been on any other mountainbike but I wanted a MTB that wont break the bank and it seems like the Trail 5 is all I need. I bike on the trails with with every week at the least and have taken it already two difference XC trails each more than 20km and I still can say that the bike can handle more than I can. The only thing I've changed with the bike is the tires (I bike a lot in the mud) and the pedals (I think it hit a rock which cracked the original pedals). Anyway my conclusion here is that the Trail 5 is very capable and will be quite a while before a beginner will outgrow this bike.

I ride casually in a semi-urban environment. Except for the occasional railroad easement, the toughest terrain I find are our aging roads. I don't ride hard. I never fall. Yet so far a pedal and the saddle have broken. I do very much enjoy the bicycle. So I imagine once I get all of the parts replaced, it will be a great bike.

          Comments about cannondale TRAIL 5:

I'm a avid and die hard fan of biking sports. I normally ride every weekends on trails and mountains. With regards to that, I sometimes can't avoid to fall on a steep sloap and rocky trails. As far as i know, I hardly fell 3 times already which my rear Rim and Spokes mis-aligned. But surprisingly, the body if this bike is so Tough! Regardless of scratches and sign of worn out (on paints), the built and geometry is still kick'n and going.
Maybe the cons about this bike are most of the parts. Changing it on High and good quality parts, definitely this bike will rocks!

riding in tropical forest trails, lots of climbing and downhill. Overall a good handling bike, but some components are not really up to the standard of the frame.

I have replaced everything but the seat post. The original comments were terrible. The frame is great now with pushed fox fork, x9 grips, x9 rear, wtb saddle, juicy five brakes.
