I bought this bike to commute to work and also get a good cardio in. I put about 100 miles a week on it. I ride on roads, trails, gravel and paved. This bike has all the gears you need. The brakes are great, very solid equipment stock. I bought the bike at Toga bike shop in Nyack. I have dumped the bike and it took it well. The mechanics at Toga are great too. Buy through a reputable bike shop and you won't have to worry.. Worth the price, you'll have for a very long time.

I would like to say I like the bike Buutt components are poor and it is uncomfortable solely because of the handlebars. A redesign is needed there. Because of the shape and the low profile it tends to sprain your wrist which limits the distance the bike can be ridden. That is Cannondale's personal design so that is understandable and I can live with that. I don't understand the rest.
First the bad. The tires are a preference to the manufacturer but they will immediately show the wire tread if a rock is glanced. They need replaced. That is understandable for Cannondale to use these but I don't understand the poor quality of the tubes. The valve stems are poor and will immediately fail if air is added or subtracted. During one of its many visits to the shop, the mechanic replaced the tube at the shops expense.
Even though I bought the 5, the bike came with the crank for the 9. No big deal but I would like to get what I paid for. It works fine and my pants don't get caught.
The wheels did not turn very well and had to be in the shop twice just for this. Even though it could be an in-experienced mechanic but eventually it turned out to be warped brake disks. The bike had less then 20 miles on it at this point.
The chain is very poor. It only lasted 100 miles before it started grinding. Chain was replaced at shops expense again. The new chain currently skips over the cassette and is not rideable right now. I have taken it to the Cannondale dealer but was duped into thinking it was fixed. As I was riding the bike back home, inside of two minutes, It was still skipping. Rode it to another dealer where he told me the problem. The bike has not been right since I bought it. Very upset at the inadequacy.
In short, inside of a hundred miles, I have replaced one inner tube @ 15$, Two tires @ $60.
The shop has provided another tube and a chain totaling a cost of an estimate of 45$ for a grand total of 120$ extra besides the cost of the bike. Now I have to buy a cassette to match the chain for another 45$.
Oh yeah, not to mention the gears must be un-adjustable. 3 mechanics so far have adjusted the gears to no avail. Either they don't change or will change 2 gears or just not change at all. I do have another Cannondale so I know how the gears should change. I can live with this I just don't like replacing parts when I just got the bike.
I have had the bike 4 months and it was back in the shop within days of buying it. It still has less then a hundred miles. Even though this is my second Cannondale I might not buy another again. The first one had problems too but not nearly the replacement problems of this one. I feel like I am not getting any help from the dealer so I am getting madder and madder hence this review finally!
The good things are the rest of what I haven't mentioned. I like the seat and the frame not to mention I was able to get it to 42 mph; downhill of course. 32 mph on the flat.

Comments about cannondale BAD BOY 5:

I use this bike to commute to and from uni, 5 ks round trip with 60% road and the remainder bumpy paths a bit of light trail.
For me comfort is king and I have had to upgrade bars to risers which meant a new stem as well as tuff platform peddles and a slightly nicer saddle.
Other than this the bike is standard, I am 6 foot 5 and 250 ponds. I hop gutters and dont slow down for much, so far the bike has not shown any sign of unreliability.
Not sure how the thick slicks will hold up on wet roads but they feel fairly stirdy on the grass.
Bike is fast and strong, it looks tuff and gets attention.
I stopped riding for 10 years in my late teens due to a lack of options for tall riders. Tech has changed and this bike is a great example.
          Loving it...

The only thing on the bike I had to change was the saddle...after the first commute to work...lets say it hurt to sit down. Besides that the look and feel of the bike is amazing, I get tons of compliments and looks!

I took this bike for a test ride at the local bike shop, and instantly fell in love. It's so much fun to ride, that I prefer it over driving, and I'm a big car guy. I commute to and from work, and I just ride it around town to run errands, and to go to the gym.

It's a very solid bike, with great components, and fantastic build quality. The attention to detail is really stellar, and the design is a home run. If Batman rode a bike, I think this would be it.

The only "negative" is that the brakes do squeal. Oink.

It's not my first bike, or even my only bike, but it's become my favourite. Unbeatable stand-out style statement, great handling, excellent brakes and running gear ... and it looks awesome just standing still!

I tricked this bike out every way possible with carbon fiber, did FSA-SLK cranks, stem, seat post, handlebars and accented with red cables, red disc brakes, red nipples on wheels, red Crank. Brothers pedals. It looks awesome and I have found many guys asking me about the bike. The only negative stock feature was the tires which I replaced with the Michelin Pilot Sport which give a little more grip and looks cool at night with the reflective sidewalks.
