I have been super impressed with this bike. I came from a 26inch Scalpel and I can't believe this bike actually weighs 22.8 lbs in a Large frame right out of the box. The Reynolds Carbon wheels with the color scheme look amazing. This bike is equipped with the new Lefty and it is flawless. I'm still so disappointed whenever I test a bike with the Sid. There are people who actually race on horrible forks every day. Nothing is as smooth and controls downhill braking chatter with as much precision and control as the Lefty. The new XO gruppo shifts with absolute precision.

The Short rear chainstay makes downhill tight cornering a dream. I can't believe how short it feels when you need to pivot.

The Lockout for front and rear suspension are well placed and intuitive like the shifters.

This bike makes Epic Rides a dream. A must for those 50k and 100k events. Never have I stepped off a bike and felt less abused after beating through rocky sections for 2-3 hours.

I would choose this bike over SWorks Epic, Scott Spark, etc.

Buy it, Ride it, Love it!!

As far as the bicycle performance it is great! Climbs and handles very well. Easy to ride and the suspension is able go over tree roots with ease.

Quality is my only issue with this bike. The XO brakes chattered so much I had to replace them with Shimano XT rotors and Swiss Stop pads to resolve. The Reynolds rear hub completely free wheeled on me and forced me to walk out of the mountains 4 miles to get help. Hub has been replaced under warranty. The carbon fiber hybrid lefty is leaking oil from the main housing. It has been repaired once by Cannondale and now it is leaking again in the same spot! The bike is 7 months old and has 725 miles on it. Cannondale wants to try and repair again at this time.

After several 50+ milers and a couple Xterras, this bike is hands down the best I have ever ridden(I've logged many thousands of miles on various brands). I did upgrade to the XX1 1X11 which is incredible as well. The new lefty fork works wonderfully once dialed in. My only complaint is the stock XO brakes. Depending on your riding style they may need to be upgraded to something else (say, Shimano). If your in the market for an upper level MTB, this is it.

Great bike, light, stiff and supper fast.
The Reynolds wheels are as terrible as they can get: First the hub wend off spinning freely in both directions. My LBS replaced with new hub internals. Then the spokes started breaking out, one every ride. It became a routine of getting back to bike shop to replace a spoke after every ride.
After 3 spokes replaced and complete rebuild of back wheel, I simply left the set at the shop and replaced with aluminum wheelset. Waiting my bike shop to sort things out with Cannondale and Reynolds warranty.
Stay away from them if you can

I run my bike hard on amateur races and this bike has always been my dream, 5 months later I would say it has lived up to expectations.
The lefty fork is the smoothest I have ever felt. Power on the flats, rough, hills and gently swerving singletrack is direct and immediate with no slip. Downhill on full suss setting is so smooth its actually unsettling. My one negative is that I lost some agility in the tight stuff but that's 29er rather than bike.

Coming off an Ibis Mojo SL 26". The Scalpel makes me ride 25-30% faster. It feels like this bike begs to be ridden fast. It has snappy acceleration, stiff pedaling platform, and maintains momentum like nothing else.
I swapped the stock SRAM XO brakes, shifters and rear derailleur with XTR Race components and very happy with theis build. Did not have to mess with the cockpit as it is perfectly built for this bike. The Raynolds wheels and Racing Ralph tires are perfect match for pushing you faster on rolling hills and hard packed single tracks.
Look in the blogs for the optional white/magnesium color scheme. Its not on the official Cannondale website but the dealers can order it for you. Much better looking compared to the default red/blue colors.
Total weight at 22 lb (10 kg) for a small frame with XRT pedals and a bottle cage!
The bike is stiff no matter how hard you pedal. When engaging the front and rear lockouts it feels like a road bike. It is so stiff I only use it on asphalt. Read some reviews about the lockouts blowing out in some occasions, I never had this issue with my 155 lb weight.
Due to its short wheelbase the bike is easy to maneuver in tight single-track, and is supper fum when going downhill. But given the overall stiffness and limited travel, don't expect a plush ride when the going gets rough. The Racing Ralph's will reach their limits when climbing over slippery rocks and lose terrain.
Overall this is a supper bike which will make you better rider and definitely faster. I'm not talking about a small marginal improvement, you will feel a significant improvement in any loop you do.
If you can afford it, just go and get it. You will not regret.

I ride approximately 4 days a week - cross country riding. On an average ride, I'll climb approximately 2,000 to 2,500 feet in elevation starting at 5,800 feet elevation. The Scalpel Carbon 1 is incredible.

I'm more of an aggressive rider and like a maneuverable bike. The Scalpel 29er maneuvers like my 26er. It almost climbs by itself and is surprisingly agile through technical descents and ascents. The bike is extremely stiff and responsive. It's very light weight yet solid. I love riding it and am so thankful I made the decision to purchase the Carbon 1. It is well worth the money.

This bike is extremely light weight and the lefty fork always makes for an excellent conversation piece while taking a break on the trail. If you have the ability to purchase this bike, DO IT! You will not regret this purchase.

This bike gives a serious advantage over competitors. It climbs like no other and descends well once you get your fit dialed in and get used to the super quick handling. It's crazy lightweight. Only negative I have experienced is the rear wheels spoke nipples working loose. Checking spoke tension occasionaly takes care of that and the wheels do have a free warranty but I haven't had enough issue to use it. Brought tension up a little on the rear wheel and they have been good since. Only other thing that could be better is maybe the brakes though they are powerful enough. Overall the bike is ridiculously good.
