  • SAVE PLUS Alloy Micro-Suspension
    By flattening and butting the chain stays and triaxially forming the seat stays, we create a rear stay assembly that allows significant deflection vertically to absorb road shock and vibration, while staying extremely rigid laterally for power transfer and confident cornering.

Nice multi purpose bike

        Comments about Synapse Disc 3 Ultegra:

        Purchased this for my Winter/rain bike and it works very well for that. I wanted, aluminum frame, disk brakes, not too heavy, good components and endurance geometry and ability to fit 28mm tires on it with full fenders. Full fenders are mounted on it and the mounts are placed to avoid interference with the brake calipers. Due to the severe tempatures and snow this Winter I haven't ridden it much yet, only few hundred miles. I did have one ride a bit over an hour in a steady rain and was very comfortable, felt very in control at my typical 17-18 mph average pace.

        1. Disk brakes in the rain / wet - they are awesome, stopping as well as good rim brakes on dry pavement. This was one of the primary reasons I picked this bike over others
        2. Comfortable - the geometry is comfortable and it does a decent job of absorbing the road vibration with the 28mm tires I put on it.
        3. You can easily fit 28mm tires on it with fenders. I haven't tried it with the 25's it came with but am sure the ride is simliar, I keep the 28mms at close to the same pressure I would the 25mms to keep rolling resisitance minimized.
        4. 11 Speed Ultegra - this shifts very nicely and the trim on the front DR is very effective. At this price point, I couldn't find anything that had close to the same components so it's a great value IMHO. I have the 6700 Ultegra on my other road bike and the difference is noticable immediately
        5. It's fairly light weight for an disk brake Aluminum framed bike - 20.5 lbs for my 58 CM without pedals or bottle cages. It's not as light as my carbon fiber road bike, so it won't get used much when the weather is nice and roads are dry. It's a reasonable weight penalty for aluminum and disk brakes though. This is probably be the lightest option available today for an aluminum frame with disk brakes.
        6. The mat powder coated finish will work out well for being my foul weather bike - it would be difficult to keep a polished finish looking presentable for this use.

        1. The brakes on Dry pavement - on long steep down hills when using just the rear, there is some fading although you would see the same on rim brakes. I think the bike should have had a 160 rear disk instead of 140 for better braking. The brakes do require a bit more pressure than good rim brakes to stop on dry pavement. The fade and the additional pressure aren't bad, I just use front and back to avoid the fade and may swap to different pads in the future. There is plenty of brake to lock the wheels up at speed though so this is not a safety issue at all.
        2. The FSA crank - I wanted full Ultegra for durability and improved shifting up front - had the dealer swap it for an Ultegra crank as part of the deal for their cost difference.
        3. The wheelset is right at 2000 grams without tires and rotors - so as you would expect they feel a bit heavy spinning up. It would be pretty easy to take around a pound off the bike with a custom or or a few of the off the shelf wheelsets on the market today.

        Other comments
        I was happy to find the OEM saddle was usable right off the bat - I like to have a cutout in mine but if I stay to the rear of the saddle it works ok for me. I'll probably change it in the future but it's adequate for now. I also prefer a bar with a flattened top so had the dealer swap those as part of the deal with a set I had at home, and retape the bars with a gel tape I like in white. With a little more room at the chain stays and front fork this bike would handle larger tires and would be a great gravel road or single track bike but with the restrictions at those points it's not going to excel in those environments, although it could work in a pinch.

        Overall, I am very happy with it - it does exactly what I purchased it for and does it VERY well. The bike has a lot to offer and is a great value in my opinion. It can serve very well as an all around multi purpose bike.
