Saturday August 11 at 6:30 am almost 2,000 racers will leave the sleepy town of Leadville, Colorado and embark on a 100 mile journey through some of the country's highest terrain. CFR will be looking to defend its three podium placings over the past three years with arguably the strongest team of endurance athletes in the race.
Jeremiah Bishop, Alex Grant and Tinker Juarez are all fresh off of big endurance wins in July and will be looking to push the pace at the front of the race.
Bishop recently won the Wilderness 101 in State College, PA, taking his second NUE win of the year! The lush, rocky, technical singletrack of Pennsylvania is a far cry from the high alpine terrain of Leadville but Jeremiah is ready and feeling good.
Grant took a win of his own at the Wasatch Back 50 in Midway, UT, narrowly defeating Mathias Beukes of South Africa on the second of two 25 mile laps. The course included a substantial amount of fire road climbing which Grant dubbed "perfect Leadville prep!"
Not to be outdone, Tinker Juarez traveled to Butte, Montana for the Butte 100, which he also won in 2011. Tinker proved he is on some great form and shattered his own course record.
All three plan to work together to get the best result they can, but know they have their work cut out for them with current Marathon World Champion Cristoph Sauser and past Marathon World Champion Alban Lakata in the mix this year.
It should be a great race, don't forget to check back next weekend!
