Cannondale Factory Racing started the weekend well with a third place in the XCE Eliminator race for Manuel Fumic and went into Sunday’s XC race with high expectations. Right from the start of the 8-lap race, Nove Mesto local and Overall leader Jaroslav Kulhavy pulled away and seemed to be unbeatable. Marco Aurelio Fontana and Manuel Fumic were been present in the chase group for most of the race before both of them had to give up their hopes for the podium. "After my third place in the sprint I felt really good, but knew that I had some weeks of hard training for worlds in my legs. I am still not fully recovered, but will be for the coming races and especially worlds," Fumic said. He finished a respectable 11th place which leaves him in 9th position in the overall World Cup.

Marco Aurelio Fontana had a great race and was pushing really hard in the chase group until he started to get cramps and was forced to a complete stop for some time. "I was about to quit the race, as the pain was brutal. I am not sure what happened, but the team staff motivated me to finish for the points. I’m happy I did, as I am still in 8th overall after this result today. I will use the week to recover and will attack this coming week on home soil in Val di Sole, Italy," Fontana said.

Martin Gujan had a pair of tough laps at the beginning but came around again and finished 16th which gave him the points needed to be one of the Swiss riders for the World Championship in just two weeks.

CFR riders have been using the full selection of bikes available to them, with Fontana using the Flash 26, Fumic the Flash 29 and Gujan the Scalpel 26. The team is now on the way to Val di Sole, Italy for the final round of the UCI World Cup.
