SmartSense is Cannondale’s unique ecosystem of on-bike lights, rear-facing radar, sensors, and smartphone app. Designed to improve your visibility, enhance your awareness, and boost your confidence on every ride.

Prologue

Road cycling is amazing. It’s what drives us, what excites us. But part of the experience is sharing the road with others—cars, trucks, motorcycles, and fellow cyclists. That’s just the reality of it. With this in mind, we introduced SmartSense in 2022—the first fully integrated and connected system of on-bike lights, radar, and sensors. By linking the lights with radar, SmartSense increases visibility and awareness on the road. And thanks to its seamless integration and single-battery power source, the system is incredibly easy to use, making every ride more convenient and rider-friendly. It was a major step forward in enhancing the cycling experience for both riders and other road users.

Now, with the launch of the 2025 Synapse Carbon, we’re taking SmartSense to the next level with its 2nd generation—building on its groundbreaking foundation to enhance safety, convenience, and performance even further.

The updated headlight is small but mighty. It’s now half the size yet delivers an impressive 800 lumens (400 lumens max for the STVZO version), more than double the brightness of the previous generation. Mounted discreetly under the stem, it keeps the handlebar area neat and uncluttered.

Ride Aware.

The rear radar and taillight are combined into a single, compact unit positioned high under the saddle for optimal visibility. It detects vehicles up to 140 meters behind you and works in sync with the lights, adjusting brightness and flash patterns when cars approach (Note: The STVZO version adjusts brightness only, as flashing is not allowed). This dynamic system ensures you’re always seen and aware of your surroundings.

One to rule them all.

The battery capacity has more than doubled—from just over 20 watt-hours to a robust 50 watt-hours—providing up to 24 hours of runtime in flashing mode or over 12 hours in steady mode. Unlike the previous version, the new battery is neatly housed inside the frame’s StashPort. Open the StashPort door, and an automatic light switches on—just like a car’s glovebox—making it easy to find what you need. Need extra light? Simply remove the battery and use its built-in flashlight feature. You can even charge your phone or other devices via USB-C. Plus, SmartSense Gen 2 now supports SRAM AXS electronic shifting, making it a true all-in-one power solution. One charge covers it all, powering all connected devices simultaneously without impacting runtime.
